Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, Energy Plant

Hines, Illinois

The energy plant serving a 3.3 million-square-foot campus improves plant efficiency by 5 percent, reduces emissions by 7 percent, and saves approximately $600,000 annual energy costs. HGA conducted a detailed campus energy analysis to determine existing plant steam production, established the Owners Project Requirement (OPR), and developed Set Log goals to design and implement the energy infrastructure upgrades.

The energy plant consists of three boilers operating at 125 psig and 353°F and one boiler operating at 600 psig and 740°F. Steam generated from the boilers power a steam turbine generator that produces a maximum of 850 MW to generate electricity distributed to the grid.
