What's New

Recognition & Momentum in Sacramento

Two major Sacramento projects are marking important milestones. The State of California DGS Resources Building Renovation received a DBIA Western Pacific Region Design-Build Innovation Award, recognizing the progressive design-build collaboration between DGS, Turner Construction, AC Martin, and HGA. HGA’s role focused on workplace strategy, programming, and interior design, supporting the transformation of a major state facility in downtown Sacramento.

Nearby, the California State Association of Counties has started construction on the renovation of its historic K Street headquarters. Designed by HGA, the project will modernize the 115-year-old building while preserving its civic presence near the State Capitol. The renovation includes seismic upgrades, interior improvements, a new sixth floor, and an accessible roof deck with views of the Sacramento skyline.

Rethinking Accessibility Through Hands-On Learning

This June, the Sacramento office piloted Sacramento Access Week in partnership with HGA's Equity team and Certified Access Specialists. The week brought accessibility learning into the office through CEUs, code refreshers, restroom and parking assessment demonstrations, and interactive activities designed to build empathy and curiosity. The pilot offered a practical, people-centered way to strengthen document quality while encouraging staff to design beyond the code minimum.

Celebrating Our Sacramento Team

Sacramento’s Employee Appreciation Month brought the team together through an appreciation lunch, a Cinco de Mayo happy hour, an in-office craft coffee cart, and a visit to Dipped N’ Color Splat Studio, where staff took a creative break with a hands-on splatter paint experience. The office also celebrated Project Architect Angela Falla as this year’s Sacramento Founders’ Award winner, honoring her leadership, dedication, and contributions to HGA’s culture.

Opening Doors to AEC Careers

Career Technical Education students from Luther Burbank High School and Sacramento New Technology Early College High School joined HGA for a Women in Construction Job Shadow Day. The visit introduced students to pathways within architecture, engineering, and construction through office tours, career conversations, speed networking, an interactive panel with women leaders, and a hands-on design activity that helped them imagine their own future in the built environment.
