FBI Central Records Complex
State-of-the-Art Archives & Automated Storage Retrieval System
Designed to streamline the Department of Justice (DOJ)’s worldwide records management, the FBI Central Records Complex is a state-of-the-art facility that features a building that consolidates official records from 265 DOJ locations worldwide to enable the storage, retrieval, and management of mission-critical DOJ assets. The complex also includes a secure, state-of-the-art, Class A office space for 450 employees, a visitor screening center, operation support, secure service areas. The facility is operable 24/7, providing the technology and responsiveness to digitize records on-demand.
Requiring 100,000 SF of document storage space, the record collection aspect of the project was the central focus. HGA coordinated an innovative, collaborative solution using an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). Fire-rated shutter doors provide fire-rated partition compliance while controlling access for the storage retrieval robots, ensuring records safety.
The project meets the facility standards for records storage as defined by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Additionally, the building complies with Anti-Terrorism / Force Protection regulations and physical security mitigation in accordance with DoD Minimum Anti-Terrorism Standards for Buildings. The project was also designed to meet the requirements of the GSA’s stringent Design Excellence Program.
