Two HGA Leaders Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

Mia Blanchett, FAIA, LEED AP, and Steven Dwyer, FAIA, LEED AP, of HGA in Minneapolis, have been elected to The College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Mia Blanchett is Vice President, Principal and national Public Market Sector Leader directing integrated team processes focused on workplace design, master planning, and programming for state and federal agencies. From new construction to historic renovations, Blanchett’s architecture reflects the evolving needs of the modern workplace and public sector.

Among her notable works are the Minnesota State Capitol restoration in St. Paul; the B.H. Whipple Building restoration at Fort Snelling; Columbia Heights Public Library in Columbia Heights; and multiple master-planned projects for General Mills World Headquarters in Golden Valley.

“Mia believes in the power of public architecture,” said HGA CEO Tim Carl, FAIA, who nominated her for FAIA elevation. “Her genuine leadership balances complexity with vision, shaping the everyday lives of thousands of people as they come together to work, play, and govern.”

Steven Dwyer is Vice President and Design Principal, focused on cultural, arts and community-centered work. Throughout his career, Dwyer has promoted architecture that reflects the intersection of place, program, and beauty.

His recent projects include Boise State University Center for the Visual Arts; Dakota County Whitetail Woods Regional Park Camper Cabins in Farmington; Surly Brewing Company Destination Brewery in Minneapolis; and The Loppet Foundation & Minneapolis Parks Trailhead in Minneapolis.

“Steven has demonstrably placed community and local circumstance first in all of his design and volunteer efforts,” said Jeffrey Scherer, FAIA, Co-founder of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle in Minneapolis, who nominated Dwyer for FAIA elevation. “The ability to lead, humbly and carefully, is one of Steven’s most important attributes.”
