HGA Lights Up Illumination Awards

HGA has won five Merit Awards for lighting design excellence in the 48th annual IES Illumination Awards program, sponsored by the national Illuminating Engineering Society.

Countryside Community Church

The congregation of Countryside Community Church in Omaha, Nebraska, envisioned an intimate, welcoming worship environment for fellowship, child and adult education, community daycare, music performance, and outreach. The lighting design upholds the concept of candle-light, universally evoking warmth and intimacy.

Revel – 1600 Belle View Renovation

The Revel wine bar in Alexandria, Virginia, creates a relaxing speakeasy atmosphere that celebrates wine and beer through light as a material—dynamically reflected through the skillful application of scale, contrast, and play on light inversions.

Saint Paul Academy and Summit School Addition and Renovation

The redesign for this private middle and upper school unites five decades of buildings in St. Paul, Minnesota, including the original 1916 schoolhouse, a 1970s academic building, a performing arts center, and a recent science addition. The lighting uses linear light modules as a neutral platform to unite the unique buildings and provide quality illumination to various spaces.

Samuel Oschin Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai

For this Cancer Center relocation on the 7th floor of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Advanced Health Science Pavilion in Los Angeles, the design emphasizes layers of lighting to create an uplifting and warm environment.

Westwood Hills Nature Center

Westwood Hills Nature Center in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, is located within a 160-acre nature preserve. To address lighting complexities, the designers applied a philosophy of balance with natural lighting, stylistically blending seamlessly with the architecture to enhances the human experience.

About the Awards

The IES Illumination Awards recognize individuals for professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design. Judges represent a broad professional spectrum who evaluate entries based on how well the lighting design meets the program criteria.
