Milwaukee Public Library’s Mitchel Street Branch wins 2019 Landmark Library award.

The award from Library Journal is given to, “paradigm-shifting public libraries designed around their communities’ changing needs.” Sharing that a landmark library features persistent, creative, and inclusive design practices.
The library took over a historic building built in 1919 that once housed a department store. The space is an architectural gem with details like decorative columns, ornate railings, and terrazzo floors that have come to life again, combined with 21st century function. From a teen tech zone to a 3D printer and from a recording studio to spaces to read and relax, the Mitchell Street Branch has become a destination for the community.
