HGA Wins Two AIA Northern Virginia Design Awards

Honoring outstanding architectural design and planning, the annual AIA Northern Virginia Honor Awards program acknowledges HGA’s design excellence in government and institutional architecture for the General Services Administration (GSA). 

The two award-winning buildings include:

Award of Merit in Institutional Architecture 

Woodlawn, Maryland 

Located on the Social Security Administration Woodlawn Campus, the Arthur J. Altmeyer Building serves as the primary offices for Senior Social Security Administration personnel. HGA, with Snow Kreilich Architects and Studio NYL, updated the aging 1959 building into a state-of-the-art, high-performance workplace that included a complete recladding, all-new mechanical systems, and new stairs and elevator cores.

Jurors’ Citation in Institutional Architecture 

Winchester, Virginia  

The FBI Central Records Complex consolidates official records from 265 Department of Justice locations worldwide. To meet the needs for 100,000 square feet of records storage space, HGA coordinated an innovative design solution using an Automated Storage and Retrieval System. Specially engineered shutter doors provide fire-rated partition compliance while controlling access for the storage retrieval robots, ensuring records safety.
