HGA Happenings: June 2023

In June, HGA launched transformational projects, hit new milestones, and connected with industry partners and peers at the AIA Conference. Check out highlights from the month below.

New Projects

HGA rendering of the Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Building in Cleveland, Ohio.

HGA has been selected to design Case Western Reserve University’s New Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Building in Cleveland, Ohio. The largest investment planned on the main campus in decades, the new building will contribute to regional economic growth, attract and retain sought-after researchers, and open a campus that has been closed off from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Designed to offer adaptable and flexible research environments while removing physical barriers, the new facility will inspire users to interact and work together across disciplines. Conceptual renderings show a building that resembles a group of rectangular blocks with different roof levels and window grids, creating a feeling of energy and movement. Peter Cook, HGA design principal, said the building design will be “very light, bright, airy, and welcoming”. Read the full story here.

Completed Projects

Rendering of Mirage at Apple Park (Courtesy of Zeller & Moye)

Recently completed, Mirage at Apple Park in Cupertino is the collaboration of an international team including award-winning visual artist, Katie Paterson, design studio, Zeller & Moye, and HGA as the Architect-of-Record. The dramatic sculpture art consists of more than 400 cylinders of glass, formed from materials collected from roughly 70 deserts across the world. The sculpture is located near Apple headquarters and is open to the public, serving as a contemplative space and inviting visitors on an artistic journey. The sculpture was designed with the environment in mind, including careful preservation of the surrounding olive trees. Light filters through the curved glass walls as they weave through the olive grove offering views of the trees and the garden. Read more about Mirage here.

Project Milestones

HGA rendering of the Jackson Hole Historical Society & Museum in Jackson, Wyoming.

Jackson Hole Historical Society & Museum (JHHSM) is halfway through construction and celebrated with a “Topping Out” party. The HGA-designed museum, expected to be complete in 2024, will establish a permanent museum campus for JHHSM and serve as a primary destination for interactive exhibits, educational programming, and special events, in addition to offering flexible spaces for community use. The topping out ceremony included live music, refreshments, and an all-ages history activity. Attendees also had the opportunity to sign a construction beam that was put into place during the event. Graco, HGA, Tegra, and Mortenson at groundbreaking ceremony in Anoka, Minnesota.

HGA attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Graco’s new manufacturing building in Anoka. Graco, a worldwide leader in fluid handling applications, is headquartered in Minneapolis with multiple locations globally. The Lubrication Equipment Division in Anoka has experienced recent growth and the new building will double the division’s manufacturing footprint supporting research and development, engineering, marketing, and training functions. The facility will consist of expanded fabrication space, offices, testing labs, meeting spaces, cafeteria, restrooms, and building utility rooms. HGA’s interdisciplinary team provided a full breadth of services, including master planning, architecture and interior design, civil, landscape, structural, and MEP engineering.

Awards

Clubhouse and updated tennis courts at the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Tennis Center.

The Lisa & Douglas Goldman Tennis Center was selected for an Architizer A+ Award Winner in the Sustainable Sports & Recreation Building Category. Located in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, the center serves a diverse population of tennis players—from students to enthusiasts and beyond. Designed by EHDD with early design input from HGA, the center is designed to be naturally ventilated and daylit for much of the time it’s occupied, enhancing the wellbeing of occupants while reducing energy costs. Using materials selected for their durability and to express a natural, local character, the public building is designed to last 100 years. The center also uses a municipal recycled water supply system that reduces the use of potable water for non-drinking purposes. Learn more here.
