New Research and Academic Building at UC San Francisco Parnassus Heights Moves Forward

Designed by HGA and Snøhetta, the new building will create a vital collaborative space to drive innovations in scientific research and education.

UC San Francisco (UCSF) recently announced that UC Regents approved the exterior design, project scope, environmental review, and the $842 million budget for a new research and academic building at Parnassus Heights. It will move forward to construction.

Through a collaborative partnership, HGA is serving as the Executive Architect and Architect of Record, leading programming, planning, interior design, and project management as well as the design of research lab and technical program spaces. Snøhetta is leading the overall conceptual design for the building and surrounding public realm, including landscape and site improvements.

“We have an incredible opportunity to support our research community with a state-of-the-art building designed to advance the way research is done today,” said Catherine Lucey, MD, MACP, UCSF executive vice chancellor and provost, in the recent UCSF announcement.
