The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee celebrated the grand opening of the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin (OHOW) Center with a ribbon-cutting. The HGA-designed facility is an addition to the University’s Klotsche Center & Pavilion and will be used primarily by the Panther’s basketball teams. The new Center features a full-size basketball court, a strength and conditioning center, a film room, a treatment center, a basketball student-athlete lounge, a Panther Athletics Hall of History, and renovations to the existing locker room. The grand opening included a blessing by the Menominee Tribal Dance and Drum Team/Wolf River Drum and Dance Team. The court is made from lumber that comes from the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin and was produced out of the Menominee Forest.  Learn more here.

Topping-Out

HGA rendering of the Cal State Performing Arts Village

CSU San Bernardino celebrated a construction milestone for the University’s new Performing Arts Center, with a topping out ceremony. Designed to be a welcoming “front door” and cultural beacon for the campus and surrounding community, the Center will provide modern teaching, rehearsal, and event gathering space. The centerpiece of the facility is a 500-seat theatre planned with equity and access for all in mind. A defining feature of the Center is the prominent roof form that extends out from the lobby to provide solar shading and invite the campus and community in. A curved, playful feature wall comprised of vertically oriented painted aluminum baguettes extends from the lobby interior to the building’s entry plaza. Once complete, the theater will be the first of its size and quality in the Inland Empire. Groundbreakings

HGA and partner Otto Construction attended the groundbreaking at Sac State

HGA attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the CSU Sacramento Arts Sculpture Lab. The new facility will replace the aging warehouse that has housed the University’s Studio Art programs since the 1970s. When complete, the transformed Arts Sculpture Lab will offer a cutting-edge artistic environment equipped for advanced endeavors across multiple disciplines. HGA’s design team worked with University faculty and other members of the art department to design instructional and graduate studio spaces, including the secure courtyard and a public sculpture yard. The new arts lab will include painting, drawing, and sculpture studios, wood and metal shops, a dedicated outdoor space and individual studios for graduate students. Read the full story here.

HGA and partners attended the groundbreaking for the Seneca Replacement Hospital

HGA and design–build partner Boldt attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new, Seneca Replacement Hospital. Seneca Hospital’s original facility was built in 1952 and does not meet new structural standards recently legislated in California. HGA is working with the team at Seneca Hospital to design a new, modern facility offering additional space for patients and families, upgraded patient rooms, improved imaging, surgery and laboratory departments, state-of-the-art medical equipment, expanded resident capacity in the long term care unit, and a helicopter emergency services landing site. Expected to be completed in 2025, the new facility will advance the hospital’s mission of “Tradition, Community, Compassion.”

HGA participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the DeWitt Center at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. The performing arts expansion launches a year-long golden-milestone celebration for the college’s nationally acclaimed Department of Dance. Although the new Jim and Eileen Heeringa Dance Wing is named for the Department of Dance, the space is intended to serve all of the performing arts departments at Hope College. The 3,900-square-foot dance studio can be used as a performance space for dance, theater, and other departments. The addition will include dressing rooms and a green room, audience restrooms, and a wheelchair lift to facilitate access to the mainstage and backstage areas. Speaking at the ceremony, Bill Blanski with HGA, offered insights into design of the new Center. Read more here.
