Samuel Oschin Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai wins Southern California Development Forum Design Award.

The new Samuel Oschin Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai integrates medical planning, design, and technical expertise into a state-of-the-art facility that meets the hospital’s mission of delivering high-quality, high-value patient care in Los Angeles.
The 45,000 square-foot cancer center includes 41 exam rooms and 53 infusion bays in two infusion areas—for short- and long-term care—in a hospitality-focused atmosphere that emphasizes patient comfort while promoting operational efficiency.
During the planning phase, HGA interviewed patients, family, and staff to understand their experiences. Among the responses, the patients asked for a “cozy, comfortable, and clean” space with soothing colors, natural light, and more privacy. Staff likewise asked for an efficient, low-maintenance space that responds to both patients and staff’s needs to best meet the concerns of their patients.
Using this data, the design team created a healing environment that integrates natural light, views of nature, natural materials, and energy- and water-efficient fixtures, sensors, and Energy Star equipment.
