University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing

Expanding Enrollment

The former MU Sinclair School of Nursing (SSON) turned away a high percentage of qualified nursing applicants to its 5th semester clinical undergraduate nursing major because of lack of space for expanding student enrollment and faculty.

HGA in association with International Architects Atelier, Inc. worked with the university and nursing leadership to provide a new SSON facility that is highly responsive to the latest nursing and health profession trends, operations, technology and nursing curricular models. The new SSON, a three-story new facility, and additional basement space, includes enhanced student and faculty commons and amenity spaces, nursing/health professions research space, diverse workplace spaces for a faculty and staff of nearly 90, simulation labs, and collaboration spaces, and improve aesthetics and the School’s presence on campus.

It also allows the university to increase student enrollment by 30-40 percent. Key to the growth and advancement of the Nursing program, the Simulation Suite includes high and medium fidelity simulators, manikins, task trainers, virtual and augmented reality suites, skills assessment labs, and standardized patient (OSCE) exam rooms.

The design of the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri increases simulation space by 138%, classroom space by 16%, and research space by 567%.

This projected growth will provide enough space for 186 additional students to learn and grow in a state-of-the-art simulation center and labs, dedicated research and innovation suites, advanced interactive classrooms, and enriching gathering spaces.
