The Fitz Apartments

Blending Past and Present on Milwaukee's East Side

The Fitz Apartments is a four-story residential development on Milwaukee’s East Side, built on a long vacant lot in a historic preservation district. Designed to complement the early 20th-century brick apartments across the street, The Fitz blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary detailing.

The apartments bring much-needed housing to the neighborhood, transforming a long-vacant into a thoughtfully designed residential development. The four-story building features a U-shaped layout with a landscaped entry courtyard, reducing its visual bulk while enhancing the pedestrian experience. The exterior incorporates refined masonry techniques with elongated modern bricks and intricate coursing patterns that blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.

The building includes a mix of apartment units and a buried parking basement that minimizes its footprint while maximizing residential density. Its durable brick and limestone façade reflects the character of the surrounding historic district while introducing a modern interpretation of traditional materials. Located in a walkable, transit-friendly neighborhood, the Fitz supports sustainable urban growth while revitalizing a once-underutilized site.
