San Francisco Chronicle

A Space to Reflect the Current Times

The new office environment is the most significant renovation in the newspaper’s 97 years at 901 Mission Street, celebrating their past and guiding their future. The San Francisco Chronicle is one of the oldest newspapers on the West Coast and has documented events locally and around the world for over a century. HGA was approached by The Chronicle to assist them with creating a newsroom that reflects today’s focus on digital. The new space is a continuation of telling stories — a conduit of information to the people — about San Francisco, The Bay area, and the world.

Formerly comprised of small, segmented spaces, a variety of work configurations were designed for the new space, adaptable for employees’ needs. Better technology was integrated into stand-up working spaces, hybrid A/V mounts were added, as well as quiet spaces for independent research and writing. Ample access to daylight was added, creating a more energetic and collaborative office environment.
