Sacramento County Primary Care Clinic
Serving Diverse Patient Groups
The Sacramento County Primary Care Clinic is a county-operated facility that serves the healthcare needs of increasingly diverse patient groups. The Clinic is designed to accommodate outpatient medical examination and urgent care needs for patients without the means to pay in full. Sited at the fringe of the UC Davis Medical Campus, the clinic’s urban setting complements the adjacent neighborhood with trees and open space.
The two story, 100,000 SF building program reflects the public health challenges affecting migrant workers, refugees and low income patients. The project includes a primary care clinic, a chest clinic for tuberculosis patients, chronic disease and refugee clinics, a public health lab, and pharmacy.
The exterior fenestration portrays a highly technological yet welcoming image. The double glazed tinted windows contribute to energy savings. Full height screens serve to mask rooftop air handling units, some of which are needed for HEPA filtering and multiple air changes in chest clinic patient areas.
The entry provides a shaded and easily-identified public front door. With consideration for the number of patients who use public transit, a second major entry is dedicated for transit passengers. A central atrium brings interior light to work and visitor areas. A two story parking structure accommodates public and staff needs and helps to minimize surrounding surface paving.
