Northern Virginia Science Center

World Class Science Center in Northern VA

This project brings together the Children’s Science Center and the Science Museum of Virginia to create a new collaborative science museum to serve Northern Virginia. It is located in the Kincora mixed-use development in Loudoun County, on a sloping site facing the Broad Run natural area.

The 65,000 SF interactive museum will be built on a STEM-based education platform which will feature interactive exhibits, re-framing different aspects of science including medicine waterworks, space exploration, metropolis, technology, and a living garden. Working with Roto as the owner’s Exhibit Designer, HGA is planning and designing the museum to create a guest-centered building that is accessible for all. This highly flexible, adaptable, and energy efficient building will be built in two phases, with a large format dome theater and planetarium anchoring the second phase. The project is currently in construction and expected to open in 2027.

HGA leads the team as Designer and Architect of Record bringing national expertise in this building type, with Mueller Associates providing Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Greenway as Civil Engineer, Downey & Scott as Cost Estimator, Rhodeside & Harwell as Landscape Architect, and SDC as Sustainable Design Consultant.
