Milwaukee Area Technical College - Integrated Energy Master Plan
Planning for a Sustainable Future
With the goal of reducing building energy usage by 50 percent and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 100 percent, Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Integrated Energy Master Plan creates a model for sustainability for students and the community.
We served as the primary resource for technological and financial analysis, and started off by conducting a thorough assessment of the College’s current operating condition, equipment and energy consumption characteristics. This provided a jumping off point for discussions with stakeholder groups and MATC staff. HGA led outreach efforts to facilitate stakeholder and community engagement and gain support of the net zero emissions goal, and guided discussions to gain realistic feedback on option feasibility and projected outcomes. This information was key in the development of the master plan.
The Master Plan is intended to be utilized as a resource moving forward, by detailing carbon reduction outcomes, costs, benefits, paybacks and risks associated with each option presented. It includes recommendations that are prioritized and phased with an overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, and creates a design standard for all future construction projects in order to achieve that goal. The team is currently providing measurement and verification services to verify ongoing performance of the buildings.
