Dynamic Hub Empowering Collaboration

Located on the 19th floor of the One Sansome Street high-rise in San Francisco’s Financial District, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.’s new office is a dynamic hub for internal teams and clients, combining functionality, flexibility, and a welcoming atmosphere. After a decade since their last office remodel, this project enabled McCarthy to redefine their workplace experience.

This relocation had a clear vision: create a modern, collaborative workspace that reflects the brand, enhances culture, and supports it evolving workforce.

The design team worked closely with McCarthy to assess current needs and anticipate future growth, prioritizing spaces that support an expanding headcount and a mobile workforce – resulting in an environment that integrates collaboration, focus, and flexibility. The design balances natural elements within an urban context. Light woods, coordinated textures, and soft, natural tones provide warmth and contrast against the building’s cityscape views.

At the core of the plan is an open layout, featuring touchdown areas, flexible seating, phone rooms, and huddle spaces supporting a “work anywhere” philosophy. Amenities include a large boardroom that doubles as a strategic planning and event space and a central break room that anchors the office. This break room captures panoramic views, serves as a comfortable retreat for employees, and showcases McCarthy’s brand identity.

The building’s unique curvilinear shape was embraced as a design opportunity, resulting in rounded edges on the break room island, specialty lighting, and a custom reception desk complemented by a curved plaster wall. Ceiling elements inspired by “Karl the Fog” create a connection to the city’s identity. Flexible furniture selections, including repurposed pieces, demonstrate McCarthy’s commitment to sustainability.

Through thoughtful space planning and design execution, this workspace reflects McCarthy’s core values—genuine, committed, and team-oriented—mirroring the spirit of their employees and clients. It is an approachable, versatile, and forward-thinking environment that celebrates McCarthy’s dedication to construction excellence and collaboration.
