Macalester College - Comprehensive Campus Plan

Prioritizing Campus Investment through Strategic Plan Alignment

With a growing student body and a long list of facilities’ needs, Macalester College partnered with HGA and MKC Architects to create a flexible framework plan to prioritize development and investment in the physical space on campus.

Using the 2022 Strategic Plan as a guide, the team developed four co-creation teams centered around the themes of the Academic Experience, the Residential and Campus Life Experience, Community Connections, and Sustainability. The final Comprehensive Campus Plan (CCP) is a framework that allows the College to make the best use of its limited capital resources and aligns physical investment with strategic campus goals.

The year-long planning process included a robust engagement process with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees to shape the development of the plan and respond to pressing needs and key areas of focus. Engagement methods included an all-campus stakeholder survey; in-person and virtual workshop sessions with co-creation teams; pop-up tabling; and town-hall forums designed to capture voices from across the campus community.
