Fostering Company Culture and Collaboration

Kindeva Drug Delivery, a global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) focused on complex drugs and combination products, recently completed its new global headquarters in Woodbury, MN. The building houses a state-of-the-art R&D laboratory, critical support functions, and corporate leadership. HGA’s partnership with Kindeva, a drug delivery developer and recent spin-off of 3M, began by evaluating the company’s existing space on the 3M campus and conceptualizing an ideal new R&D headquarters. The existing clean rooms were difficult to access for potential clients, requiring security checks and gowning procedures. Additionally, the large campus infrastructure physically separated leadership, business and R&D staff, creating unintentional silos and reducing random acts of collaboration. Kindeva partnered with a developer/builder to create a new 137,500 SF precast concrete shell with 36’-0” floor-to-floor heights. HGA was tasked with delivering a world-class company headquarters in a space that could have potentially been used as a shipping warehouse, all under an extremely aggressive design and construction timeline, which kicked off in March 2020, the start of the pandemic. The design utilized color and solid/void relationships to navigate the inherent challenges of placing lab and office programming into this large volume of space. The result is a headquarters that fosters a new company’s culture and its mission for scientific excellence.
