Reimagining Rehab

This inpatient project radically reimagines an existing nursing unit at Hoag’s flagship Newport Hospital. The design team transformed a concrete-clad 60’s era building with patient rooms on 12’-6” centers onto a spacious, open, hospitality-influenced unit that greatly improves patient and staff experience. Clinical needs are designed into the unit – the floor is marked at 10’ intervals. Group spaces are distributed and open to circulation.

The 24-bed Acute Rehab project spanned two towers in the existing hospital. Large patient rooms were designed to accommodate physical and occupational therapy in the patient’s room. The open dining and activity space has become a beautiful multiuser space for visitors, staff and patients.
