Enhancing Health Services in Orange County

HGA with local partner, Taylor Design, were engaged to greatly expand an existing 200-bed hospital by adding a 180-bed tower and expanding and remodeling its existing Diagnostic and Treatment Services.

The team proceeded with a Big Room approach, co-locating weekly to organize the work in a process targeting 5 ½ years to first patient. A typical OSHPD project of this scale is 7 years from start of design until first patient. The integrated team is focused on maximizing patient experience and clinical outcomes on a market driven budget. Pull planning and A3’s are key tools in effective decisionmaking and keeping the team organized.

A main focus of the new bed tower was the Women’s and Infants program. The new bed tower will feature 16 labor and delivery rooms with access to a roof deck labor garden, a 22-bed NICU and 36 postpartum beds. This will be the premiere birthing program in Irvine.
