GSA, F. Edward Hebert Federal Building
Creating a Productive, Sustainable, and Secure Workplace
HGA and Brasfield & Gorrie are collaborating to modernize the F. Edward Hebert Federal Building, originally constructed in 1939, with major space conversions in 1966 and modernization in 1987.
The plan is symmetrical with entry lobbies at either corner facing Lafayette Park. The Lobby Link, a new space created by widening a corridor, will allow natural light deep into the space and provide more desirable lease space behind a translucent glass wall while also providing space for the security screening function. A new common corridor in the center of the building will provide natural light and access to elevators and new toilet rooms. The project includes cleaning and repairs of the exterior wall and a new roof. The modernization also involves major alterations to the building’s mechanical, electrical, fire sprinkler/annunciation, and vertical transportation systems.
