City of Madison Net Zero Emissions Master Plan

Helping Cities Meet Their Sustainability Goals

With a goal of 100% renewable energy and net zero carbon emissions by 2030, the City of Madison engaged HGA to develop a viable master plan and to catalog energy and sustainability options for the City to consider. We performed a detailed energy and carbon assessment of City buildings, vehicles, traffic signals, water distribution pumps, and other equipment to establish a baseline for future comparison as energy efficiency measures are implemented. Various strategies for achieving the City’s energy goals were identified and studied; for example, gradually electrifying the City’s bus and fleet vehicles. Potential strategic partnerships were explored and pursued, such as clean energy opportunities with local utility companies and third party energy vendors. Successful public outreach initiatives were also employed to gather feedback from the community and build support for the net zero carbon goals.
