Innovation and Instruction: A Gateway to Campus Advancement

The Business of Innovation

The Innovation and Instruction Building is a four story structure on the east side of the main campus quad. The building contains 110,700 GSF of space and 71,940 ASF and will be a gateway structure for the campus. It is located on the previous site of the Small College Complex (SCC) which was demolished for this project and future buildings.

The architectural language draws on the aspects of the master plan and the original vocabulary that was created when the campus was first established in 1970, by the Architect and Modernist, A. Quincy Jones. The new building houses general university and business school classrooms, faculty/admin offices, and a café as well as a university event center. Classrooms and computer labs of varying sizes from 25 to 120 seats are designed as active learning environments. Faculty offices and meeting rooms encourage student/faculty interaction and collaboration. Breakout spaces and open collaboration areas enhance the continuous learning environment.

The university event center consists of several active learning classrooms as well. A meeting room / classroom serves as an active learning environment and banquet space. A 250 seat auditorium contains a 120 seat collaborative learning classroom and distance learning space within the auditorium. Flexibility of use for university events is supported by a banquet kitchen.

A large four story lobby space welcomes students and visitors to the building and includes event and gathering space for classes, banquets and meetings with a large media wall. A central open stairway connects all four levels of the building enhancing visibility of programs and interaction of students, faculty, administration and the community.
