855 Oak Grove
From Dated Complex to Data Campus
Even with its great location, steps from the heart of downtown Menlo Park, 855 Oak Grove’s volcanic rock facade and underutilized courtyard made it less than desirable for larger tech companies, our client’s target tenant. The new design turned a shabby courtyard into a central amenity, created more generous tenant suites, and upgraded finishes, accessibility and building safety.
Louvers let in light in the courtyard, provide just the right amount of shade, or seal shut to keep the atrium dry, making this a sweet space, rain or shine.
Existing windows were replaced with 8’6” tall storefront glazing systems throughout the building. Instead of sloping concrete and irregular planters, the reimagined courtyard features modern stone pavers and a wood deck, with breakout spaces furnishings for small meetings. An original concrete and mosaic tile fountain was restored.
Modern details meet durable natural materials for better rooms and better meetings with the interior layout maximizes collaborative space. Exposed roof and floor joists replace the old acoustical tile system. The interior was reconfigured to accommodate a variety of meeting rooms and huddle spaces. The main entry portal is fully accessible, generously landscaped, and includes a clear-glass storefront so the building interior courtyard can be secured yet visible.
