ASID and IIDA awards recognize Marivel Ansera’s contributions to the interior design profession and achievements to cultivate a diverse design field.
Marivel Ansera, CID, IIDA, ASID, Senior Interior Designer, Senior Associate at HGA, has been named an American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Ones to Watch Scholar and an International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Member of the Year Award winner.
The double wins, announced by the commercial interior design industry’s two leading professional associations, highlight Ansera’s work as a designer, volunteer, mentor, and advocate.
Ansera has more than 12 years professional experience leading interior projects for workplace, education, cultural, and healthcare markets nationally. Her client portfolio includes Augsburg University, University of Minnesota, Gustavus Adolphus College, Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Wells Fargo Plaza, Mayo Clinic, University of Wisconsin Health, Accenture, and Dropbox.
“Interior design is about designing beautiful and functional spaces—and bringing human dignity and equity to our built environments,” she says.
Ansera further promotes the role of women of color in the interior design industry through her professional and volunteer work.
She is co-leader of HGA’s national equity initiatives; President of IIDA Northland, 2020 – 2021; creator of FRAME, a program developed in conjunction with ASID to teach designers how to speak about the value of the profession; and founder/creator of B.O.L.D, (Building Outstanding Leaders in Design), a mentorship program developed in collaboration with MSP NOMA (National Organization of Minority Architects) that supports designers of color in the Twin Cities.
“I give back so that I might inspire someone else not to give up—to continue, persevere, and find help along their path,” she says.

The ASID 2021 Ones to Watch program recognizes under-represented, rising design talent that demonstrates exceptional leadership with a willingness to push the boundaries of the profession.
The IIDA Member of the Year Award recognizes an IIDA Member who has demonstrated outstanding volunteer service through commitment, passion, professionalism, and dedication assisting IIDA as it advances the interior design profession and advocates for interior design excellence.
