Representatives from HGA’s Science + Technology team receive recognition by two awards programs. The International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) recognized the HGA designed, Lehigh University Health | Science | Technology (HST) building with a Sustainable Laboratory Award for Excellence in Water Efficiency at its Annual Conference in Anaheim, California. The team also received a Merit Award for Institutional/Commercial project types from the AIA New England Architecture Awards at CACX’23, the annual premier architecture conference in Connecticut.
Prominently located at the northeast corner of Lehigh University’s historic Asa Packer campus, the sustainably designed facility is designed to promote research and discovery within a transparent ecosystem. HST fosters interdisciplinary collaboration through thematic neighborhoods that encourages impactful partnerships between undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty researchers. Faculty offices within the open office plan are grouped in clusters, loosely defining boundaries between the shared desking zones. The building features spacious and open areas that can easily be reconfigured to accommodate future research needs.

The I2SL Sustainable Laboratory Awards recognize projects, programs, and people that decrease greenhouse gas emissions, improve water and energy efficiency, divert waste from landfills, and promote sustainable best practices. Winners inspire, educate, and uplift others in the sustainable laboratory community with their dedication to advancing sustainable laboratories.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has a long tradition of recognizing individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievements in support of the profession of architecture. The AIA New England Architecture Awards recognizes diverse architecture and architects throughout New England. Representing AIA components in CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT, the 2023 AIA England Architecture Awards were hosted by AIA CT.
