Euclid Gallery Exhibit – Dry Land

Jennifer Boysen

Jennifer Boysen is a painter born in 1976 in Iowa, currently living and working in Ventura, CA. She received her BFA from the University of Iowa in 1998 and her MFA from Hunter College, CUNY, New York, NY in 2002. Boysen’s solo exhibitions include Paradise Ranch Road at Five Car Garage, Santa Monica, CA in 2021, Dry Lands at Euclid Gallery, Santa Monica, CA in 2019, TORRI in Paris, France and Cherry and Martin in Los Angeles, CA in 2015, and Transmutes at Cherry and Martin, Los Angeles, CA in 2014.

Boysen’s art-making process involves painting as landscape with no direct association to any particular visible experience. Through scraping and scratching the surface of her work, Boysen creates a pictorial image that invites a visceral memory. Her painting gestures and techniques are suggestive of other media such as photography, sculpture, or digital media. With the slightly concave shape of the canvas, Boysen creates a “still point” of the painting, a place of meditation and immersion, much like being in nature.
