HGA won six awards at the Architectural Engineering Institute Professional Project Awards program for Westwood Hills Nature Center and STAAT MOD.

STAAT MOD
To meet the growing need for hospital capacity during the COVID-19 crisis, HGA and Boldt created STAAT MOD™ (Strategic, Temporary, Acuity-Adaptable Treatment), the only prefabricated solution providing highly engineered, Airborne Infection Isolation (AII) Room modules for infectious patients undergoing aerosol-generating procedures. The solution focuses on patient and staff safety and the need to heal vs. house patients.

STAAT MOD won the Most Innovative Project under $100M based on the joint HGA and The Boldt Company presentation at the AEI Virtual Conference, along with receiving the Award of Excellence for Architectural Engineering Building Integration and Award of Excellence for Construction Management and Methods.
“I’ve never seen anything designed so quickly and completed so efficiently. Everything was executed like clockwork!” – Ann Toupin, CNO & COO, Adventist Healthcare, Fort Washington
Westwood Hills Nature Center
Westwood Hills Nature Center is a 160-acre nature park featuring prairie, forest, marshes, trails, and educational center, designed to connect people to nature while producing net-zero energy.
Mass timber structural systems and building orientation align with the Nature Center’s sustainable design and low-carbon goals. Mass timber structural systems support shading strategies by extending the wood roof beyond the building footprint while east-west access maximize daylight and optimize winter passive heating with high-efficiency glass. Inside, exposed mass timber integrates with the exhibit design, aesthetically blending programming with the natural setting.

The Westwood Hills Nature Center received Award of Merit for Architectural Engineering Integration, Award of Merit for Mechanical Systems Design, and Award of Merit for Structural Systems Design.
About the AEI PPA Awards
The Architectural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers recently named two HGA projects as winner in the Architectural Engineering Institute Professional Project Award program. The awards were presented at a virtual conference, recognizing outstanding achievement in design and construction. The competition focuses on the design and construction of high-performance buildings including structural, mechanical and electrical systems, as well as construction management and architectural engineering integration.
