HGA Welcomes New Colleagues Nationally

Team members reinforce HGA’s design and planning expertise in key markets.

Healthcare

Kevin A. Day, AIA, is an Associate Vice President and Healthcare Principal in our Washington, D.C. office, where he leads project teams and client relations for the growing healthcare practice in the mid-Atlantic region. He has more than 20 years’ experience gaining the trust of his clients designing healthcare, institutional, and community-focused architecture. Kevin’s healthcare expertise and portfolio include behavioral health facilities, acute care facilities, academic medical centers, inpatient & outpatient facilities, and master planning & feasibility studies for leading clients. He has a Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Virginia.

Bill Whipple returns to HGA as Associate Vice President and Senior Medical Planner in Rochester, Minnesota. He has more than 25 years of experience focused on medical master planning, workflow improvement, lean project delivery, and risk assessment. He most recently served as Principal Architect with Sutter Health in Sacramento, where he gained the owner’s perspective leading facility planning across multiple campuses in California. During his six years at HGA’s Sacramento office, Bill was a Senior Medical Planner working on acute care facilities and complex hospital modalities. He has a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo.

Science & Technology

Trevor Wells, LEED AP BD+C, is an Associate Vice President and Principal in HGA’s Science & Technology practice in San Diego. With more than 25 years of architectural experience, he brings expertise in the design and planning of interdisciplinary physical sciences and engineering environments, biocontainment laboratories, vivaria, cleanrooms, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. He will focus on growing the firm’s life science client base and design expertise in research facilities throughout southern California. Wells has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.

Lab Planning

Waldek Kaczmarski is an Associate Vice President and Senior Lab Planner and Designer in San Francisco. He has more than 30 years of experience designing research and support spaces for life science, higher education, and healthcare clients. He brings a unique perspective, having worked with clients ranging from private and public research institutes, to private industries and government institutions globally. He has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy and an architecture degree from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland.

Corporate Workplaces

Rachel Domencic, AIA, LEED AP, is Associate Vice President and Principal in the Public | Corporate practice in Washington, D.C. She has more than 20 years of architecture and project management experience designing innovative spaces for a range of projects, including federal, corporate, mixed-use, hospitality, higher education, and laboratory & technology research facilities. She additionally focuses on incorporating sustainable design strategies and materials into her work. She has a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech.

 

Building Technology

Dan Michaud is Associate Vice President and Principal. He leads the Building Technologies Department based in Milwaukee. In this newly created role, he will build client connections nationally to implement a range of digital solutions for the built environment. Over his 30-year career, he has developed and deployed Digital Master Planning and Intelligent Buildings services based upon his expertise in building controls, audio/video, security, telecommunications, and IoT systems. He will work across HGA’s market sectors to develop custom approaches to helping clients realize new user and operational experiences through digital technologies. He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maine and a Masters Module on Resilience from MIT/Arup.
