Completed Projects

San Diego State University (SDSU) celebrated the grand opening of the new Performing Arts District. Envisioned to be a vibrant hub for the arts, HGA worked with the University to plan and design the Arts District, which includes a collection of new and renovated performing arts facilities. Renovation of the Don Powell Theater’s 450-seat main stage offers improved sightlines, universal access, recalibrated seating, and reshaped acoustics, creating a more equitable experience for both performers and audience. The new Prebys Stage includes 150 seats with a dynamic indoor-outdoor connection to an outdoor stage. The new Dean Joyce M. Gattas Pavilion consolidates ticketing and concession services for all venues in the Performing Arts District. Read SDSU’s announcement, here.

HGA attended the grand opening celebration for the new Health Sciences building at Santa Ana College. HGA, The Boldt Company, and M Health Fairview celebrated the grand opening of St. John’s Hospital’s new short-stay observation unit. With the need for flexible patient care space increasing, HGA and The Boldt Co. teamed with stakeholders in the delivery and customization of the industry leading prefabricated modular building solution; a 16-bed observation unit delivered within 8 months. The use of evidence-based research and industry best practices led to an accelerated design process, creating cost and schedule certainty. Project Updates

HGA’s continued partnership with the City of Edina, Minnesota is supporting the community’s path to reducing carbon emissions. Edina has long been a leader in sustainability and tackling environmental issues. In 2021, as the community became even more concerned about the climate crisis, the City’s first Climate Action Plan was released, setting forth goals to cut carbon emissions 45% by 2030, with a long-term goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. Through the partnership, HGA’s team of engineers, landscape architects, and architects contributed to a list of 200 actions the City identified as necessary to reach their 2030 goal. The Ernest E. Tschannen Eye Institute Building at UC Davis Eye Center has achieved LEED Gold certification. Designed by HGA, in partnership with San Francisco design firm TEF, the Center provides hope to the vision-impaired for sight restoration through advanced technology, pioneering research and some of the world’s best eye care clinicians. Passive design strategies were used to help with energy conservation. The building orientation allows for generous amounts of high-performance glazing on the north façade without risks of excessive heat gain. Water conservation was achieved with low-flow fixtures throughout, reducing water use by 35%. Learn more about the Eye Center transforming vision care, here.
