HGA Happenings: January 2023

We’re off to an ambitious start to 2023. Check out the most recent wave of new and completed projects, groundbreakings, and recently photographed projects.

Completed Project

Tri-County Health Care Exterior Rendering
Rendering of Tri-County Healthcare Replacement Hospital, Wadena, Minnesota

Tri-County Health Care has played a major role in Wadena, Minnesota and the surrounding community for close to 100 years, becoming a part of the livelihood of the community and economy. To remain relevant and solvent, the system needed to rethink how they deliver care, in a more flexible and efficient manner. HGA’s master plan in 2017 resulted in a decision to find a new Greenfield location and build a new community hospital/clinic, known as “The Rural Health Center of the Future”. Completed this month, the hospital is part of a campus of services, sited along a major highway. The site engages the natural environment and includes a great deal of glass letting daylight in during the day and at night is lit from within, creating a beacon on the highway. Tri-County Health Care is also rebranding itself and will be known as Astera Health in the future.

Harley Davidson Community Park Rendering

HGA has partnered with Heatherwick Studio to transform a portion of Harley Davidson’s manufacturing headquarters into a public park. The mostly concrete space will be converted into a civic and soulful green gathering space that can be used by employees and the local community. At the heart of the new park is “The Hub”, a sunken multi-use events space with tiered seating, providing views of the original home of Harley-Davidson and a park sown with native plant species. The design promotes the idea of togetherness for the community, riders and employees alike. HGA will be the architect of record in addition to providing civil engineering, landscape, lighting, and technology design. Internationally acclaimed designers, Heatherwick Studio, are overseeing the overall creative delivery of the project. Read the announcement here.

Construction is underway on the HGA-designed Waterfront Services Building at Lake Waconia Regional Park. The new facility features a multipurpose activity and event space, boat and paddleboard rentals, staff and lifeguard offices, restrooms, changing rooms, and a lobby.  The design features an undulating roof which shelters seating areas facing the lake, connecting visitors to the nearby beach, boat launch, and dock with ferry service to historic Coney Island. The building provides a backdrop for a large events lawn to host concerts, fairs, and the popular annual 4th of July fireworks show.

Boston Scientific Weaver Lake Building Exterior
Boston Scientific Weaver Lake Building 4, Maple Grove, Minnesota

Check out recent photography of Boston Scientific’s campus in Maple Grove, Minnesota, completed in November 2022. HGA began working with the medical device manufacturer in 2018 to complete a master plan and amenity and office spaces. Boston Scientific needed a campus facility to accommodate various manufacturing processes and support space for a new product line.  HGA designed the facility to meet the latest global design guidelines and add additional capacity for production engineers, including break-out spaces, huddle rooms, a town square, and restrooms. The building was designed to be fully electric with an adaptable design to allow Boston Scientific to plan their campus in sustainable, holistic, and forward-thinking ways.

Water Street Brewery, Milwaukee Wisconsin
The Brewery, Milwaukee Wisconsin

The recently photographed Water Street Brewery needed a new look to match its new name, The Brewery. HGA began the renovation by removing an existing intervention that was causing the space to feel crowded. This opened the spaces, exposing historic cream city brick throughout. The newly renovated space includes five separate spaces, each with a unique character. The main tap room features a reconfigured bar and a custom DJ booth showcasing hundreds of historic beer cans. The pool room includes two large pool tables and repurposed booths elevated to bar height and clad in warm brown leather. The lounge also includes repurposed booths reclad in a luxurious blue fabric. The sports room features soft seating clustered around large monitors and a smaller bar at the rear allows for more intimate gatherings.
