The new Allina Health – Abbott Northwestern Hospitals’ neurological unit spearheads innovative, research-driven approaches to treating a very complex patient type. The unit advances care for these vulnerable patients through a progressive care model that acts as a seamless continuum from ICU to med/surg and rehab. The story of innovation extends throughout the entire process of design and construction, featuring the implementation of a prefabricated wall system within an I-Occupancy critical care unit for the first time in Minnesota.
This program details how the integrated design and construction team worked staff to assess existing processes and identify key metrics for human experience, operational efficiency and clinical outcomes. We will demonstrate how we identified these metrics in pre-design, implemented them in design phase, worked together during the construction phase and confirmed them in post-occupancy evaluation.
