Event: IDEC Midwest Regional Conference

HGA’s Ariane Laxo is presenting an interactive session on (Re)balancing Empathy: (Re)shifting and (Re)framing Design Thinking at the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Midwest Regional Conference in Chicago, IL on October 20. Ariane teaches interior design seniors as an adjunct instructor at Kent State University.

IDEC Midwest Regional Conference

This discussion examines how the need for teaching and learning empathy in interior design is highly desired but also challenging to implement, requiring innovative approaches to design thinking. The panelists will reflect on the methods and pedagogies developed and tested in studios, seminars and practice in the pursuit of developing empathetic design processes and solutions. The discussion will work towards identifying areas and methodologies of empathetic intervention and engagement from reflective and prospective positions. The panelists will conclude by outlining ways of enhancing the quality of interior design discourse in order to inspire the next generation of empathetic design thinkers and practitioners.
