Event: HGA Presents at Healthcare Design Expo + Conference

HGA design leaders and client partners present three programs at Healthcare Design Expo + Conference November 3 – 5, 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

From a state-of-the-art NICU for UK Healthcare in Lexington, Kentucky, to a “process neutral” hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, and advances in environments for mental health patients, the programs highlight how HGA and healthcare organizations are researching and planning facilities that achieve measurable, industry-leading innovations in operational processes and patient outcomes.

The three programs include:

Program: The Impact of Lighting, Noise, and Design on NICU Staff and Family Members (E21)

Speakers: Jennifer Christmann (Formerly UK Healthcare), Andrea Wilkerson (Pacific NW National Laboratory), Rebecca Kleinbaum Sanders (HGA), Terri Zborowsky (HGA)

Date: November 3, 2019

Time: 1:45 P.M. – 2:45 A.M.

Team members highlight a recent pre- and post-occupancy evaluation of UK Healthcare’s new 70-bed NICU, focusing on design features, lighting conditions, and acoustics to determine level of satisfaction with primary users, staff, and family members.

Program: The Future of Mental Health Inpatients: Designing for Medical/Mental Comorbidity (E65)

Speakers: Kara Freihoefer (HGA), Terri Zborowsky (HGA)

Date: November 4, 2019

Time: 4:45 P.M. – 5:45 P.M.

Researchers Kara Freihoefer and Terri Zborowsky present evidence-based design concepts for comorbid patients—those with simultaneous mental and medical diagnoses. They will focus on inpatient design concepts derived from medical planners, clinicians and researchers that have been tested in a virtual environment.

Program: A Future Without Fear: Designing Process-Neutral at MetroHealth (E85)

Speakers: Walter B. Jones, Jr. (MetroHealth), Mark Bultman (HGA), Kurt Spiering (HGA), Terri Zborowsky (HGA)

Date: November 5, 2019

Time: 9:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M.

This program highlights how MetroHealth in Cleveland, Ohio, formed an internal Innovation Team (I-Team) to build a new 11-story acute care hospital that is continuously evolving to offer high-quality care. Presenters will illustrate the I-Team’s process-neutral approached focused on space optimization, Lean operations, and evidence-based design through several design challenges and solutions.
