Program: Crossing the Canyon to Industrialized Construction – Challenges and Opportunities

Speakers: Kyle Weisman (HGA), Jenny Han (Boldt), Will Lichtig (Boldt), Troy Hoggard (CannonDesign)

Date: May 19, 2021

Time: 11‎:‎15‎ ‎A.M. -‎ 12‎:‎10‎ ‎P.M.

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, finding space to treat coronavirus patients became a critical need. While healthcare organizations turned to alternate care sites to absorb patient demand, The Boldt Company and HGA collaborated to meet the challenge head-on, creating STAAT MOD™ (Strategic, Temporary, Acuity-Adaptable Treatment), a modular solution imagined as a factory-made, quick-ship alternative. In the months that followed, the modular approach has continued to evolve, based upon market need and customer value. In addition, as our teams learned from the process and performance of the units, we adapted to the rapidly changing environment. Industrialized Construction (IC) is changing the way in which space is conceived, planned, designed, and delivered. The lessons learned from the past year have exposed a list of challenges (personal, professional, technological, and technical) that will need to be overcome for our industry to achieve IC’s full potential. This session will provide a practitioner-level view of these challenges, the counter-measures that are currently being used, the challenges that continue to emerge, and some notions of where we might need to explore in the future as we seek to cross the canyon and reach the IC Plateau that lays on the other side.
