HGA experts will speak at two sessions at the upcoming Healthcare Design Expo + Conference.
Attendees will learn about the latest research, trends, and strategies to meet the design
needs of hospital and clinic environments.
Program: MetroHealth Glick Center

Key representatives from MetroHealth, HGA, Bostwick Design Partnership, and Turner Construction will co-lead this hard-hat tour of the transformative MetroHealth Glick Center replacement hospital under construction on a 52-acre campus in Cleveland. Replacing and renovating all on-campus inpatient facilities, the 720,000-square-foot Glick Center includes 380 beds, imaging and interventional departments, all support spaces (lab, pharmacy, materials management, etc.), and a central utility plant. The team used experience planning to define desired staff, patient, and visitor experiences, and a “process neutral” concept to provide flexibility and adaptability for future operations. The project is targeting LEED Silver and WELL certification at completion in April 2022.

During the design phases for two acute care units of a major academic medical system in 2013, the project team focused on adaptability to accommodate various types of acute care patient populations. Since occupancy, both units have flexed care types multiple times with minimal reconstruction because of built-in features. More recently, one of the units has transitioned to treat COVID-19 patients. This presentation documents key design interventions to capitalize on long-term adaptability and crisis preparedness.
