Euclid Gallery Opening: It Stands to Reason, Joy Still Exists | Ari Salka

HGA’s Euclid Gallery is pleased to present, It Stands to Reason, Joy Still Exists, a solo exhibition of paintings by Ari Salka. This grouping of works presents both large-scale and small pieces completed from 2020-2023, employing reference to Salka’s past figurative and abstract bodies of work; as well as moving toward the artist’s most recent explorations to realize the meeting of both languages.

This exhibition is curated by Tomas Schugurensky, HGA Lighting Designer.

WHEN: May 6, 2023 – July 7, 2023

  • Opening reception – May 6, 2023, 5:00-7:00 PM
  • Artist talk – May 9, 2023, 4 PM

WHERE: 1301 Colorado Avenue, Santa Monica, California

  • To access Euclid Gallery, enter through HGA’s main lobby on Euclid Street at the corner of Colorado Avenue

It Stands to Reason, Joy Still Exists provides impassioned investigations of repetition and fragmentation throughout the presentation with the vehicles of abstraction, figuration and poetry. Despite the work’s frenetic appearance, Salka’s previous iconography of bodies can be found embedded in these works in an autobiographical approach to mark marking.

Ari Salka’s “It Stands to Reason, Joy Still Exists presents a body of work which invites the viewer to spend time with each artwork; not to decipher, but to discover. Through a wide range of mediums, the works in this solo exhibition are the result of a process of layering, excavation, and rediscovery that have continually refined what is presented here over the last decade.”  Tomas Schugurensky
