Euclid Gallery Exhibit – Bruce Johnson
Bruce Johnson
The featured collection represents a mix of old and new. These works are the survivors – pieces that remained in the part of the house spared by a fire that destroyed a studio and a lifetime of work. What remains is a narrative of landmarks and changes. Drawing from a decade spent living on boats and another decade in the canyons and foothills of Southern California, the work is landscape /figurative based and continues to explore the dialogue between what is lost and what is found.
This exhibition brings together a body of work in oil painting, ink, charcoal, and monoprint, unified primarily through landscape with a rich interplay of material and method. The work remains visually driven, open-ended, and quietly evocative, sustaining the possibility of new insights and personal reflection. The decision to show this collection stems from an openness to connection and a means to reflect on new beginnings post destruction.
Bruce’s process is one of discovery, often using an existing image to find a deeper more essential image within. He is currently living and working in Altadena.
