TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY KINGSVILLE | MUSIC EDUCATION COMPLEX
Celebrating Arts at the Gateway to Campus
Texas A&M University Kingsville’s highly successful music program had outgrown its outdated facilities and selected a prominent corner at the gateway to the Spanish-Mission style campus for the new Music Education Complex.
HGA crafted the architecture as an artful composition that reflects the creativity within while honoring the campus’s uniquely consistent vernacular character. Contemporary forms are imbued with carefully tailored masonry and terra cotta details that celebrate local building traditions and recall the heritage of the campus. Generous verandas, a historic response to the hot and humid regional climate, surround the building with sheltered outdoor spaces for student activity and expand the facility’s reach with a gesture of invitation to the campus and regional community.
The signature space within the new facility is the 480-seat music performance hall. Precisely tuned, complex curved wood forms envelop audience members in a visually and acoustically rich environment, creating an inspiring space that celebrates student performance.
