HGA is pleased to announce that Amy Douma, AIA, LEED APBD+C, has won the AIA Minnesota Young Architects Award for her work in healthcare design and professional leadership.
Douma is Vice President and Design Principal with HGA’s Healthcare Practice Group, where she directs project design, research initiatives, and practice-advancing efforts firm-wide.
“Amy consistently leads teams to translate the complex operational and functional programs of into elegant and award-winning design solutions,” said Daniel Rectenwald, AIA, Chief Operating Officer of HGA. “Through her leadership, she drives project opportunities to their highest potential.”
Douma’s national healthcare work includes Samaritan Health System North Lincoln Hospital in development in Lincoln City, OR; the Emergency Department Expansion at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN; Verde Valley Medical Center Camp Verde Clinic in Camp Verde, AZ; and Hennepin County Medical Center Whittier Clinic in Minneapolis.
In addition to project work, Douma is Chair of the HGA Councils, where she promotes research, innovation and knowledge-capture; Research Leader for numerous HGA Research Initiatives, in which she explores emerging tools and processes; Founding Member and Core Adviser for the University of Minnesota (UMN) Consortium for Research Practices, which integrates research, academics and practices to solve emerging industry challenges; and Design Critic for design studios and graduate-level classwork at the UMN College of Design.
Douma also has presented at major conferences, including most recently Healthcare Design Expo + Conference, where she highlighted Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, CA.
Awarded to AIA Minnesota members who have been licensed architects less than 10 years, the Young Architects Award recognizes individual who have shown exceptional leadership to the profession through Design Excellence, Practice, Education, and Service.
