Spokane Falls Community College | Fine and Applied Arts Building

A Pivotal Cultural Link

Spokane Falls Community College has played a significant role in regional education since 1967 through quality, accessible learning opportunities that embrace diversity, promote equity, and foster global awareness. Replacing dated facilities for the Fine Arts and Photography Departments, this new facility brings the two departments together in a prominent campus building.

Anchoring one end of the campus mall to the south and overlooking the Spokane River to the north, the new Fine and Applied Arts Building serves as a gateway for connecting the existing campus to the natural bluff and landscape beyond, offering ample daylight and inspiration to painters, photographers, and the larger community alike. In addition to new studios, classrooms, labs, and galleries to support both departments, the Arts Commons is designed to welcome the campus and broader Spokane community.

To support the Fine Arts and Photography programs, the building ensures the health and safety of students working in various art processes from printmaking to welding and ceramics. With nearly 60,000 SF of classrooms, workshops, galleries, and collaboration spaces, the LEED Silver design focuses on air quality, well-being, and safe art process exhaust.

A Gateway to Light and Landscape

Set along the Spokane River, the Fine and Applied Arts Building opens its creative spaces to daylight, exposed wood structure, and expansive glazing. Framed views of water and trees establish a strong relationship between making and place, grounding the building in its natural setting.
