College of St. Scholastica Student Center
A New Campus Home for Students
The Student Center at St. Scholastica has been a long-anticipated project, shaped through collaboration between HGA, user groups, and campus leadership to create a space that best serves the community. Rooted in the Benedictine values of Community, Hospitality, Respect, Stewardship, and a Love of Learning, this new center is designed as a comfortable, welcoming hub with a strong student focus.
Accessibility and inclusivity were prioritized, ensuring that students with special needs feel supported, while the building’s eco-conscious design helps reduce the campus’s environmental impact. The addition of green space and native plants enhances the connection to nature.
The design honors the Benedictine heritage, with arches and custom frit crosses in the windows. The grounded brick massing and deep precast punched windows draw from the blue-grey granite of historic Tower Hall, quarried on campus in 1909. Inside, a ‘living room’ and feature fireplace create a cozy atmosphere, alongside diverse seating options for lounging, studying, and quiet reflection.
Guided by the principle of ‘Love of Learning,’ the center promotes student engagement and learning through community connection. It provides a safe, inclusive gathering place for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. Stepping inside, one immediately feels the essence of the St. Scholastica community—its values, sense of belonging, and commitment to togetherness.
Built with the Benedictine values of stewardship, hospitality, and respect, the Student Center is designed to stand the test of time. It will serve as a place where all are welcome, fostering learning, friendship, and community for generations to come. The vision behind this project will transform the lives of students and visitors, creating an enduring legacy.
This new building not only provides a welcoming entry to campus but strengthens connections between existing structures and enhances the beautiful hillside campus with usable outdoor spaces.
