Bellin Health - Surgery & Specialty Center
Experience as Advantage
To reduce cost and enhance the patient experience, Bellin Health engaged HGA to thoughtfully design a new free-standing MOB and ASC with better access and services for their patient population. The new 256,000 SF building reflects the unique character of the community, elevates the staff experience, and provides leading patient care for all.
Intended to be built out over time, HGA designed the entire core and shell of the building in Phase One along with the interior buildout of the first two floors. Phase One includes a 12-OR ASC, a 12,000 SF rehab gym, outpatient imaging, and clinics. The universal exam room and clinic module became the standard now used in the second and third phases on floors 3-5. By design, approximately 90% of each clinic floor is identical, with 10% of the floor plan set aside as flexible space that can be modified as needed for unique requirements, such as deployed imaging or specialty rooms. This flexible strategy allowed the Owner to proceed with design and construction before fully determining which clinic specialties were most desirable in the building.
Now highly visible from one of Wisconsin’s most travelled freeways, the five-story building exterior is wrapped in a mix of low-cost, simple materials in white, with varying textures to evoke and honor the natural forms of paper produced in Green Bay’s industrial history. Strategically placed accents of stone, metal, and wood add richness and warmth to create a timeless, contemporary palette. Moving inside to the lobby, biophilic artificial trees, generous daylight, and colorful paint colors promote rejuvenation and provide intuitive wayfinding.
Due to the health system’s partnership with the state’s beloved NFL team – and their reputation in sports medicine – the first floor includes a private VIP entry with dedicated parking and an enclosed private garage, leading directly to a dedicated concierge exam suite and surgical consult.
