As 2023 comes to a close, HGA celebrates a few more exciting milestones, including a STAAT MOD placement in Minnesota, the topping-off of a new global headquarters in Ohio, and the approval of a new, rural medical school. Check out these projects and more below:
Completed Project

The Heights Food Hall at Wisconsin Place in Chevy Chase, Maryland celebrated its grand opening. Designed by HGA and developed by Common Plate Hospitality, the food hall is a culinary experience reminiscent of the historic Washington, D.C. trolley system. The ceiling features a rail track that leads patrons through the food hall to each of the eight food stalls, a full-service bar, a sit-down restaurant, and a speakeasy. Additional design elements reflect the architecture of rail cars and the shapes and materials of the radio and cell towers that populate Friendship Heights, one of the highest points in Washington, D.C. Prominently located adjacent to the Friendship Heights Metro station, The Heights welcomes passersby on the busy thoroughfare. Project Milestones

HGA, base building architect for Sherwin-Williams new global headquarters, was thrilled to be part of the site’s topping-off celebration held in Cleveland, Ohio. The celebration included the placement of the final steel beam with the signatures of more than 600 construction workers, supervisors, project architects, engineers and designers, local elected officials, Sherwin-Williams leaders, and the Building Our Future leadership team. The headquarters campus will consist of three buildings: a two-story pavilion acting as the front porch to Public Square, a 36-floor office tower and an attached multi-level parking garage. It is expected to open by the end of 2024. Learn more about Sherwin-Williams Building our Future project here.

HGA and construction partner Boldt celebrated a milestone with successful installation of the final module for a patient bed expansion project at M Health Fairview – St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota. The 16 modules, which make up the 9,500 square-foot addition, were constructed off-site at Boldt’s prefabrication facility and were installed in less than one week. This remarkable achievement marks the latest project to utilize STAAT MOD, a volumetric modular building product designed by HGA and constructed by Boldt. The use of modular building techniques allowed the entire addition to be complete in eight months, which is half the time that a traditionally constructed addition would require. The STAAT MOD additions will allow M Health to continue embodying their commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services.

Minnesota’s first new medical campus in 50 years will move forward, after receiving approval by the University of Minnesota Regents. HGA will lead the planning and design of the St. Cloud Medical School campus, a partnership with the University of Minnesota and CentraCare. In an area hit hard with a medical workforce shortage, due to retirement and post-pandemic burnout, the new medical school will expand education and training, placing medical students in the heart of rural Minnesota. With studies that show medical students trained in rural areas stay and practice in rural areas, the school will fill a dire need in the rural parts of Minnesota. When complete, the new medical campus will include the latest technology in an immersive learning environment. Learn more here.
