In November, we celebrated milestones from coast-to-coast with the opening of a clinic offering free healthcare in California, a groundbreaking for a forensic facility in Wisconsin, and more. HGA’s 2023 Impact Report shines a light on how we are impacting people and the planet through design. Check out November’s updates below:
Completed Project

Clinic by the Bay is celebrating its 13th anniversary and opening its new location in the Excelsior neighborhood of San Francisco. The non-profit healthcare provider offers free healthcare services to individuals in the community who do not have access to health insurance and do not qualify for government assistance. HGA completed a renovation, as well as structural and ADA upgrades, of the historic Alemany Emergency Hospital, built in 1933 and vacant since 1978. The new location is 4,625 square feet, triple the size of the clinic’s previous location, and includes additional exam rooms for primary and specialty care, a dental suite, consultation rooms for health coaching, pharmacy space, and a staff and volunteer break room. Groundbreaking

HGA and construction partner C.D. Smith attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Forensic Science and Protective Medicine Facility in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The county and state-owned facility will house Milwaukee’s Crime Lab, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Office of Emergency Management, with plans for the blood and organ donation company, Versiti, to relocate to the facility. The HGA-designed, state-of-the-art facility will increase efficiencies, enhance collaboration during times of crisis, and optimize partnerships amongst laboratories. Located on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus, the new facility will help the agencies to attract, train, and retain the best forensic candidates. Topping-Out

Mount Carmel Health’s new Dublin, Ohio health campus placed the final construction beam and celebrated with a topping out ceremony. HGA attended the celebration, alongside partners; Trinity Health, Hplex Solutions, Danis, and Korda/Nemeth Engineering. Expected to open in early 2025, the HGA-designed 30-bed hospital includes in-patient and short-stay beds, an emergency department, ambulatory care, and medical office buildings offering the latest technology and equipment to support patient-centered care and expanded access for the community. The new, state-of-the-art hospital will allow Mount Carmel Health System to continue providing exceptional care and expand services to more members of the growing community, in Central Ohio.

The Broad Institute celebrated a topping off milestone, with placement of the final steel beam, for a six-story redevelopment located in the heart of the Kendall Square life sciences cluster in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Originally designed and built as an office building, the facility located at 300 Binney Street is being developed by BXP and converted into an advanced biomedical research facility for the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Designed by HGA and built by Turner Construction, the 225,000 square foot renovation will feature flexible laboratory spaces intended to spark ideas and allow for collaboration between researchers across a diverse spectrum of disciplines.
