2555 Park

Refinements That Make All the Difference

Envisioned as a prime spec office building, 2555 Park, located in downtown Palo Alto, stands as a testament to design innovation and sophisticated construction. The project started as an already entitled design, and the team provided a series of design refinements and a new set of “just-in-time” construction drawings. These new plans received unanimous approval from the Architectural Review Board before the construction crew had finished with site prep and shoring for the underground parking garage.

The design offers an aesthetic appeal with carefully reworked glass panels that accentuate the exit stair, now opening directly to the street. Subtle details such as exterior concrete scoring carry the horizontal line from window mullion to balcony, playing with the wood and glass details beyond the column edge.

The 2555 Park structure’s natural feel is amplified by a wooden trellis on the third-floor balconies, replacing heavy concrete. Slide-open Nana Walls extend the workspace outdoors, spilling over with Resysta planks warming up the second-floor balconies. The exit stairs are now a design highlight, with glass extending the building’s height and vertical board-formed concrete adding visual texture.

The opportunity for employees to mix work with relaxation on the balconies, overlooking treetop views, is complemented by the indoor/outdoor vibe created by the sliding Nana Walls.

2555 Park manifests a park-like atmosphere with superior materials and beautiful drought-tolerant plantings. The nuanced touches of blue translucent glass, board formed concrete, and warm wood slats set a neutral backdrop for the vibrant landscaping. A full plant wall takes the place of a vine trellis, enriching the front seat-wall and extending to the parking entrance.

To incorporate translucent glass fins and control glare, a stopless glazed curtain wall was designed, adding visual depth. The design team opted for porcelain tiles as a modern twist to the traditional stucco, adding a dash of modernity to the building’s traditional feel.
