Fire Company
The City of Manitowish Waters is a small community in northern Wisconsin. In the summer months, the town population swells with resort tourists and temporary residents from around the Midwest who are drawn to Manitowish Waters’ nearby chain of lakes. This new fire station replaces the Town’s obsolete and outdated facility.
The Manitowish Waters Fire Company is one of the last Fire Companies left in the state of Wisconsin. The self-funded Fire Company is staffed by volunteer firefighters that provide the rural community with fire, rescue, and EMS services. Funds to build the new fire station were raised through donations, and a tax levy to purchase the land, building, and equipment.
VDOT Administration Building and State Police Headquarters
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Administration Building and Virginia State Police Division 7 Headquarters was completed through a successful partnership between Fairfax County, VDOT, VSP, and the design and construction team. Hierarchy, balance, and function mold together to create one form. Designing a cohesive ground level space for two major state agencies was one of the biggest challenges the team faced. Function was the key driver in creation and in the end, the complex and diverse programmatic requirements transformed the footprint into an organic silhouette filled with natural light.
Olmsted County
The Regional Public Safety Training Center provides pre-service and in-service training for the public safety employees of the eleven counties of southeastern Minnesota. HGA designed the original Center, and is now working with Olmsted County on an expansion to meet current needs with the flexibility needed to meet future demands.
The RPSTC will gain classrooms, training, storage, maintenance, and office space to meet the needs of impacted departments, including the Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, and Facilities and Building Operations. This includes a flexible training classroom that can be converted to an emergency operations center, conference rooms, use of force and fitness training space, vehicle maintenance and heated storage space.
VDOT / Virginia State Police Joint Safety Operations Center
We provided architectural, engineering and interior design services for the Virginia Department of Transportation / Virginia State Police Joint Safety Operations center, VDOT / VSP JSOC. Located on the campus of the existing VDOT Richmond District Headquarters, the new, 86,500 SF building combines the vocabulary of the existing brick buildings with a contemporary glass and steel structure.
