
Michael Kang, FAIA, FACHA, EDAC, LEED AP, has joined HGA as a Design Principal for the Healthcare practice. Based out of the Washington, D.C. office, he will combine his national and international experience to expand HGA’s recognition as a leading healthcare design firm across the country.
For more than three decades, Kang has designed award-winning projects globally to develop inspiring architectural solutions that are responsive to the cultural context and meet the unique programmatic needs of the client and community. His work merges creative design concepts with advanced planning principles and technological innovations into operationally efficient, climate responsive, and transformative environments.

He will provide valuable insight and resources as we partner with clients to steer the future of healthcare.”
Before joining HGA, he was with several internationally focused architecture firms in Washington, D.C., New York, and Shanghai. His work includes large-scale projects for leading healthcare systems, including Johns Hopkins Medicine, Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., Alameda Health in Oakland, California, Trinity Health-Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring and Germantown, Maryland, VCU Health in South Hill, Virginia, as well as healthcare systems in China and the United Arab Emirates.

His work has been published in industry journals and has won many awards, including AIA Academy of Architecture for Health National Healthcare Design Award, Modern Healthcare/AIA Design Award, and AIA Washington Chapter Award for Architecture. He also has served as a juror on awards program for the Architectural Precast Association (APA) and Rethinking the Future and has been a mentor and design crit for several university architecture programs.
He has a Master of Architecture from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Maryland.
